Which charity or cause have you registered for?

I signed up, five months ago, to participate in the Ride to Conquer Cancer; taking place this July 9 and 10. This cycling journey is held annually in four provinces of Canada. This year, I’ll be cycling from Montreal to Quebec, a distance of 240 km, over a two day period. We stop at night at a camp organized by the Ride.

Are there any special conditions to participate in this race?

Each rider must raise a minimum of $2500. If I fail, I do not get to participate in the race; however, the donations are still used to support cancer research and treatment. So whatever happens I still contribute to this cause. Some people have already gathered over $30,000. This kind of support will really help advance research.

Why did you choose the cause of fighting Cancer?

First, I think that nowadays it is really important to help each other and thus spend part of our time helping those in need.

Also, quite unfortunately, cancer is very present in my life. Many people around me have been affected.  I believe very strongly about this cause. I truly believe it is possible to eradicate this disease; we have the skills and knowledge to do so, but still lack the proper funding to push the bounds of our research. That's why initiatives such as the Ride to Conquer Cancer are so vital.

Why did you choose this organization over another, which also fights cancer?

The first race organized by this Charity was the Ride to Conquer-Cancer: Toronto to Niagara Falls. At the time, I was living in Toronto, and saw the advertising. I always wanted to participate but was afraid of the distance. This year I decided to take action and train harder!

I am passionate about cycling and I welcome challenges. I believe it is essential to participate in events such as this. I like going beyond raising funds with the addition of having to push myself physically and psychologically. During the 10 hour journey, there will be times when I am exhausted and I want to quit, that’s when the battle of body and mind begins. To stay motivated during the race, I’ll think of all the people who need my help, including members of my own family, and I know it will allow me to reach the finish line.

How is the fundraising going so far?

On the website of Ride, there is a page in my name where it is possible to make donations, but for now there are a few people who’ve actually visited. I’ve mentioned my initiative to my friends and family, and managed to raise $1,790 before Kelvin Emtech’s donation. Today, I must still collect $500; though I would like to go beyond the minimum.

How will the donation money be allocated?

The Ride to Conquer Cancer donations are used to help fund research and treatment in the Montreal area. I chose the specific areas of research that I would like my donations to reach; I’ve asked that my donations be distributed equally to the research of breast cancer, prostate cancer and general cancers.

What do you think of the Kelvin Emtech initiative?

I know of no other companies demonstrating this kind of encouragement. Surely, when I worked in larger companies, this could not have been done due to the number of employees.

I think the initiative of Kelvin Emtech is fantastic and demonstrates positive encouragement and genuine interest in the well-being of its employees.

Kelvin Emtech is proud of the altruism attitude of Jeffrey Gilchrist and his investment in a cause that will one day, we hope, eliminate the "disease of our century".  The Kelvin Emtech team will have Jeffrey in their thoughts this 9th and 10th of July.

Please help him reach his goal by placing your donation through his official participation web page.
